COVID-19 has re-ignited interest in using UV light to destroy microbial pathogens, including viruses and bacteria. At the far end of the UV “C” band, specifically at a wavelength of 222 nanometers (nm), it is also safe for humans and animals.

Eden Park Illumination is leading the way in providing this solution with patented flat panel 222nm UV technology that is the brainchild of doctors Gary Eden and Sun-Jin Park from the globally renowned University of Illinois College of Engineering. Eden Park lamps are the result of years of research and engineering iteration. Today, the firm creates devices with specific wavelengths of UV light in a thin, flat format based on these innovations by Dr. Eden and Dr. Park.

All Eden Park solutions are designed to reduce the spread of airborne pathogens in crowded indoor spaces, such as hospitals, factories, submarines, aircraft carriers, planes, waiting rooms, commercial restrooms, and restaurants. Essentially, Eden Park’s UV lights disinfect an area continuously, eliminating the need to clean a room each time people come in and out. Eden Park lamps are also eco-friendly, containing no toxic substances like mercury.

“Our proprietary technology directs light into air and onto surfaces uniformly and from a small package, as opposed to other commercially available lamps that are cylinders or tubes, which are larger and result in non-uniform illumination of large areas,” John Yerger, CEO, Eden Park Illumination.

Eden Park’s products substantially reduce viral load without requiring people to follow particular behaviors like vaccination, social isolation, face-masking, or even simple hygiene like proper handwashing.

Eden Park has the unique ability to consistently innovate UV products. Recently, the company developed a screw-in bulb to enable more customers to install state-of-the-art UV lighting on existing electrical infrastructures. The expertise of its best-in-class scientists makes breakthroughs like this possible. The team effectively leverages the excimer and 222 nm technology to continually expand the applicability of its transformative products. It also has a highly competent product team led by Eden Park’s President, Cy Herring, with extensive experience in lighting, fixtures, and applications, which enables the creation of solutions that are always compatible with varying client needs and electric networks. These competencies have enabled Eden Park to help numerous clients adopt UV light technology in their operations.

Since its inception in 2007, Eden Park’s lights have been installed in many settings, including schools, cafeterias, and other large public areas. During the pandemic, it was pivotal in helping schools ensure the utmost safety through effective and non-intrusive disinfection. At the end of 2021, it was clear that the schools with Eden Park lamps did significantly better at curbing major outbreaks than institutions with conventional lighting. Through its science-backed lighting solutions, Eden Park is helping communities return to a newer, healthier normal.

Eden Park Illumination is the industry leader in lighting research, product development, and commercialization of microplasma technology. Moving forward, Eden Park aims to continue innovating and achieving excellence while remaining mindful of delivering products that can counter the risk of viruses without expanding the overall environmental impact.
