Thank you for Subscribing to Construction Business Review Weekly Brief
In 2009, Eric Langlois founded the company after years of learning the trade firsthand. He began as an apprentice carpenter in Montreal and, at the age of 22, brought his skills west to Vancouver during the city’s pre-Olympic building boom.
The fast-paced environment of that era shaped Langlois’ work ethic and sharpened his eye for detail. He quickly moved from carpenter to general foreman, gaining valuable experience on large-scale projects. When the Olympic rush settled, many would have stayed the course, but Langlois saw a different future. He stepped away from employment to pursue his own vision laying the foundation for what would eventually become Lane Construction Services.
“Over the years, we have earned a great reputation, and it is all thanks to the way we consistently treat people with respect and care,” says Langlois.
The early years came with their fair share of hurdles. As a young entrepreneur, Langlois took on subcontracts, gradually building a name and reputation. Then came 2015, a turning point. The company picked up speed, and just two years later, it landed its first independent concrete forming contract. That shift marked the beginning of Lane Construction Services transition from a supporting role to a lead contractor overseeing entire sites.
Much of that approach plays out during the bidding process. Clients typically send drawings to several firms and request proposals. While many focus solely on the lowest number, the company takes a different approach bidding realistically, accounting for every detail, and backing it with a skilled workforce and a seasoned office team. That commitment to professionalism and transparency often wins trust, even if it does not always win the lowest bid.
One particular job illustrates this philosophy well. A client once awarded a $400,000 contract to a competitor who undercut the company’s $440,000 proposal. What looked like savings soon turned costly. The contractor had not included concrete finishing and eventually walked off the job. Lane Construction Services was called in to complete the work at an additional cost of over $100,000. That experience was not just a lesson for the client; it became a turning point. The client awarded Lane Construction Services the next four projects, appreciating the true value of complete, accurate, and professional service.
Inside the company, that same focus on long-term thinking shapes the team. Many of Lane Construction Services employees began as general laborers and have grown into skilled, well-compensated tradespeople. It is a place where loyalty and ambition are met with opportunity. Strong benefits, RRSP matching, and a supportive environment foster a culture that values hard work and rewards growth.
That culture extends outward. Just as it builds trust with clients, it builds loyalty among employees. The company’s reputation rests not just on concrete slabs and clean timelines but on how it treats people whether on-site or in the office. Employees stay, not because they have to, but because they want to be part of something that feels solid, both structurally and culturally.
From the early days of hustling for subcontracts to leading some of Vancouver’s most visible commercial concrete projects, Lane Construction Services has come a long way. Its story is not just about buildings, it is about building a company that values integrity, craftsmanship, and people. As the skyline continues to rise, the company remains steady at the foundation, proving that doing things the right way is always a blueprint for success.
