The positive air pressure rooms required their own ventilation system—to prevent airborne and contact transmission of infectious agents—along with a medical bed and bathroom for high-security isolation. Paying attention to the client’s requirements, MECART put together a “SWAT” team to design, engineer, and build pre-configured rooms, including airborne infection isolation rooms (AIIR), with negative-pressure differential and protective environment (PE) rooms with positive-pressure differential.
The project was efficiently completed within a stipulated timeframe, even amidst a global health crisis. MECART not only satisfied the immediate need but took into consideration the potential future use as well. “The positive air pressure rooms can be changed into negative air pressure rooms to be used later as isolation rooms for other threatening pathogens, such as Ebola virus,” says Lipeles.
