Thanks to the sophisticated capabilities of building information modelling (BIM), underground construction technology is becoming more powerful and dynamic than ever before.

Fremont, CA: Although it is difficult to operate with subterranean structures and components by nature, BIM offers chances to make it considerably safer, more effective, and more understandable.

Contextualizing Underground Structures

BIM construction technology allows for the integration of underground structures into the significant picture context of their surroundings. This gives a clear representation of the project, from top-to-bottom. Underground components need to integrate with and adapt to the requirements of the primary structure above them, so including them in the project's BIM will ensure everything is accounted for in the design. This is especially important for essential elements, such as water lines, which are buried.

Less Invasive Construction

Trenchless excavation methods, such as micro tunneling, are less invasive than traditional trench excavations and are easier to implement with BIM. Above-ground tools can gather data on buried structures or earthworks, which can be used to create a detailed digital model. This allows for a swift and inconspicuous excavation process and for any necessary changes or updates to buried structures to be mapped out before further excavation occurs.

Improved Safety

BIM is a powerful tool for conducting risk analysis in the construction process.
