Driving Flexible Construction with Innovative Temporary Containment

When businesses experience growth, it becomes essential to expand their physical footprint, requiring renovations to their buildings or work premises. This presents two major challenges. Construction and renovation projects disrupt on-site operations, while occupants face hazards in noisy, busy environments filled with machinery and materials.

A temporary containment system, when installed properly, can address these renovation challenges. Contractors and building professionals can focus on their goals, knowing that their operations are safeguarded and that their employees and customers are protected.

STARC Systems, a leader in designing and manufacturing temporary containment systems, is at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions to contractors and building professionals, focused on simplicity and ease of use. Drawing on its superior design and engineering know-how, the team specializes in offering flexible, efficient, and aesthetic solutions for adequately containing and controlling dust and debris during construction or renovation projects. With quick installation features and high adaptability, these temporary containment construction walls outshine the competition and fit seamlessly into any workspace.

By creating a safe working environment, STARC Systems’ offerings protect clients and client sets and provide an added level of security for renovation projects in sensitive work areas. These solutions separate operational areas from work areas, allowing contractors and building professionals to easily install, move, and reconfigure wall panels.

“Our modular temporary containment solutions enable contractors and building professionals to provide quiet, dust-free working environments for their clients,” says Chris Vickers, CEO.

Its temporary containment products have gained prominence in the healthcare sector and expanded into other verticals, including airports, data centers, life sciences, and other commercial properties. With a steadfast commitment to stringent infection control standards, STARC Systems’ pioneering products are designed to conceal construction activities behind walls while creating negative air pressure. This effectively maintains contaminants such as dust, debris, and pathogens within the construction zone, and outside the occupied space, resulting in cleaner sites for employees, patients, and customers.

Beyond Healthcare: Versatile Solutions for All Spaces

STARC Systems’ solutions have proven ideal for a wide range of industries, including airports, data centers, life sciences, higher education and hospitality. Unrivalled durability and sound attenuation capabilities ensure minimal disruption and maximum productivity in occupied spaces during construction projects.

In addition to outstanding performance and functionality, its products stand out for their reusability, making them eco-friendly and cost-effective alternatives.

Unlike traditional products like drywall that is typically discarded at project completion, each STARC Systems module can be reused 3 to 5 times. Customers report reinstalling and reconfiguring STARC’s temporary construction walls dozens of times across project phases and projects. This feature allows contractors to reduce costs in subsequent construction phases while maintaining high renovation containment standards.

Products are highly versatile and flexible, included in a portfolio of module components and accessories of various sizes to accommodate any containment scenario. Telescoping panels, modular door, corners, and wall interfaces can be easily added or removed to match specific project requirements. While customizations like glass walls or special hardware are available, the majority of products and components are stock items that customers can install without specialized training.

“As a client-focused temporary containment system manufacturer, we ensure our offerings streamline various operations for our customers,” says Vickers.

Containment beyond Debris and Noise

STARC’s close collaboration with clients has enabled the creation of solutions that meet their most specific needs. A prime example of this customer-centric approach is its new fire-resistant modular containment unit. This ground-breaking product meets the stringent, one-hour fire-rated temporary wall requirement articulated in NFPA 101/241, helping contractors and building professionals comply with The Life Safety Code at different sites. The introduction of this new product has propelled STARC Systems to become the most sought-after partner for healthcare and other verticals that require fire-rated temporary walls.

Clients have the option to rent or purchase products. Through a strategic partnership with Sunbelt Rentals, an equipment and tool rental company, customers can easily access these products. This partnership provides an ideal solution for clients requiring more products on a job or needing to work around timing challenges between projects.

Solutions to Meet Every Challenge

Among STARC’s extensive range of customers is S+B James Construction, a 45-year-old construction and design firm based in Medford, California. Four years ago, they expanded into the Sacramento market and identified their first project; replacing a linear accelerator at a regional hospital. Their task was to implement one-hour, fire-rated temporary barriers that were HCAI-approved, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to remove and relocate.

They chose STARC Systems’ FireblockWall™, a first-of-its-kind reusable, one-hour fire-rated temporary containment system. This product meets ASTM E119 and E84, NFPA 241, IBC requirements, and ICRA Class IV and Class V guidelines, and can be installed four times faster than drywall, saving time and money.

As the only safe and sustainable solution that could be used repeatedly, FireblockWall promised unmatched performance and durability.

The linear accelerator containment called for approximately 45 linear feet of FireblockWall, which STARC Systems’ project engineer and carpenter completed in three days, including finishing touches. By opting for FireblockWall, the client eliminated an extra week of construction time that would have resulted in compromised aesthetics and increased labor costs.

With FireblockWall, the client successfully maintained the stringent standards required by healthcare providers during construction, especially in occupied areas. Having a reusable fire-rated temporary containment system that was quick to install and easy to clean was a game-changer for contractors. S+B James Construction completed their project faster without compromising the safety or comfort of patients, caregivers, and staff.

Channelling Successes into Industrial Dominance

With an established market presence in healthcare and expanding into various commercial sectors, STARC Systems’ modular temporary containment products are renowned for their strict infection control standards, flexibility, reusability, and stability. Their existing properties, such as sound attenuation, fire resistance, and negative air pressure, offer valuable benefits that apply to future applications and sectors they plan to explore.

As STARC Systems continues to grow, customer service remains a key component of their business model, with significant resources dedicated to supporting clients. Sales managers are situated across the country to support specific projects, and a customer satisfaction team at the headquarters is ready to assist with any issues. The product development team focuses on ensuring the solutions meet customer needs while educating them about potential challenges. This customer-centric approach has resulted in an impressive 84 net promoter score, which combines product quality, functionality, and customer service and support.

These solutions are designed to meet the unique conditions contractors may encounter during containment projects. With a strong track record in healthcare and a growing presence in multiple verticals, STARC Systems stands as a reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective solution for contractors seeking high-quality renovations.
